Where is Ten Mile Point?

This neighbourhood is in East Saanichand is the most easterly point on Vancouver Island. Except for its northern border, Telegraph Bay Road, the neighbourhood of Ten Mile Point is surrounded by water. Water is in part the origin of its name as it is 10 nautical miles distant from what was then the Royal Navy Base and what is now CFB Esquimalt. And one must not forget either that this is the mythical home of the sea monster, Cadborosaurus!

Who lives in the neighbourhood?

The northern part of Ten Mile Point is officially known as Wedgewood Estates, but is often affectionately referred to as “Pill Hill” because so many medical doctors have chosen to live there.

In this part of the neighbourhood almost 60% of the area’s residents are university educated. The median age is 50 years.Less than half of all households have children living at home, and of these 70% are less than 20 years of age.

In the south and western parts of Ten Mile Point the profile is similar, but the median ages are higher and the number of families with children living at home is less.

Average annual household income varies between $140,000 and $200,000.

English is by far the first language. The clear majority of single family homes here are occupant-owned.

Two of its more famous residents are former NBA star Steve Nash and entertainer Nelly Furtado.

How do Ten Mile Point residents spend their leisure time?

Within its neighbourhood boundaries Ten Mile Point has eight different beach access points. In the centre of the peninsula is Konukson Park. Walking trails also crisscross the area. There are several other outdoor options within a few minute’s short drive such as the very popular ocean-side Gyro Park in Cadboro Bay.

Is there shopping close by?

The largest retail complex close to Ten Mile Point is Cadboro Bay Village which hosts some 30 shops and services. A short drive away isthe University Heights Shopping Centre and across from it the Tuscany Village.

And what about churches?

Churches that are close by include: Cadboro Bay United Church and St. George’s Anglican Church.

Are there other areas to consider?
