Sunnymead Real Estate

Where is Sunnymead and who lives there?

Sunnymead is in the municipality of Saanich. It is bordered by: Lochside Drive and Trail on the west, on the north and east by Cordova Bay Road, and on the south by Royal Oak Drive.

From a demographic point of view the area residents are: university-educated, middle-aged and seniors, have higher income levels and have English as their first language. The clear majority of homes here are occupant-owned.

How do residents spend their leisure time?

Very popular among residents is McMinn Park. There are more than 6 hectares of open space, most of which is a meadow once used by the McMinn family as a show horse-training track. There are also tennis courts, basketball nets and play structures. Adjacent to the park are treed areas where there are trails, a pond and Galey Brook. And of course, there is Lochside Drive which connects to the Galloping Goose Trail and the Capital Regional Districts network. It is heavily used by cyclists and hikers alike.

A five-minute drive away is the Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park. A 10-kilometer long walking trail encircles the lake. On the north shore is an extensive sandy beach. Especially during the Summer, it is a tremendously popular family destination. The lake itself is home to Canada’s national rowing teams where athletes can be seen at almost any time of the day working to perfect their skills and improve performance. Private individuals also launch their powered watercraft, canoes and sailboats for some quality time on the water, perhaps even including a little fishing.

Indoor recreational choices are abundant at the nearby Commonwealth Recreation Centre which also houses a branch of the Saanich Public Library system.

What about shopping?

Some two kilometers west of Sunnymead is Broadmead Village, a shopping centre offering more than 40 different stores and services. The largest of these are Thrifty’s Foods and Canadian Tire. Other services typical of neighbourhood shopping centres are also present such as banks, hair dresser, travel agency and so on.

Are there other areas to consider?

Home buyers considering a purchase in Sunnymead will often also look at properties in the adjacent neighbourhoods of Broadmead and Cordova Bay.
