Gordon Head Real Estate

The Gordon Head neighbourhood lies north of Kenmore Road and south of Shelbourne Street. It is bounded on the east by Gordon Head Road and the Haro Strait.

The area is residential in character. Probably the largest percentage was constructed during the 1970’s. Many homes have secondary suites that help to ensure housing affordability and to accommodate the student population of the University of Victoria.

Who lives in the neighbourhood?

About a third of area residents are university educated. Some 50 percent is made up of middle-aged and seniors. Income levels are higher than average and English is the first language. The clear majority of homes here are occupant-owned.

What schools are there in Gordon Head?

Families with school-aged children are well served in Gordon Head. For elementary pupils, there are three schools: Torquay Elementary, Hillcrest Elementary, and the ArtsCalibre Academy Elementary School. The latter offers pre-school, kindergarten and elementary programs and a summer-time performing arts camp. Gordon Head Middle School accommodates grade 6-8 students, while Mount Douglas, one of the largest in the Capital Regional District, is the high school attended by most students in grades 9 through 12.

How do Gordon Head residents spend their leisure time?

Outdoor recreation options are plentiful. Nearby and to the north is Mt. Douglas Park. At 183 hectares (450 acres) in size, Mt. Doug is the largest park in Saanich and boasts extensive walking trails and some breathtaking views. In 1942 Artist Emily Carr returned to visit this park which was the inspiration of many of her last works. A popular park on the water is Glencoe Cove - Kwatsech Park, an ideal spot for a summer’s day picnic. Many other smaller parks are to be found across this neighbourhood.

Indoor recreational choices are available at the Gordon Head Recreation Centre, including swimming and fitness programs.

Is there shopping close by?

Although Gordon Head has no retail areas within its own boundaries, there are lots of choices close by including: Cadboro Bay Village, University Heights Shopping Centre and across from it the Tuscany Village, all within a few minutes’ drive.

And what about churches?

Finally, there are three churches either within, or on the boundary of, Gordon Head: Gordon Head United Church, the Croatian Catholic Church, and Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Are there other areas to consider?

Home buyers considering a purchase in Gordon Head will often also look at properties in the adjacent neighbourhoods of Mt. Doug, Lambrick Park and Arbutus.
