WELCOME TO SAANICH EAST
Welcome to Saanich East
East Saanich is one of Greater Victoria’s most desirable neighborhoods. Set between mountains, green space and the sea, this pastoral region is the perfect place to raise a family or enjoy the outdoor activities that make Vancouver Island such a wonderful place to live.
Cordova Bay: Spectacular Ocean Views, Close to World-Class Schools
Cordova Bay lies roughly between Royal Oak Drive and Sayward Hill, with luxury oceanviews overlooking tranquil Haro Strait and the San Juan Islands to the east. Lochside Trail runs from north to south along the east side of the ridge, and the flat, multi-use trail is popular with cyclists travelling from Victoria to the Saanich Peninsula.
Cordova Bay is an excellent place for families with young children. Sandy Cordova Bay Beach is a popular but “local” spot to bring children, and several other “hidden” beaches can be found off of Cordova Bay Road.
Schools in Cordova Bay and Broadmead
Broadmead and Cordova Bay are served by School District 63; Cordova Bay Elementary School lies in the heart of the neighbourhood, while Royal Oak Middle School is an impressive new school located nearby, just off West Saanich Road.
Claremont Secondary School is within walking and biking distance of most homes in Cordova Bay.
REAL ESTATE IN SAANICH EAST
Ten Mile Point: Luxury Close to Nature
Ten Mile Point in East Saanich is one of Victoria’s most spectacular neighbourhoods, and real estate listings here typically sell quickly. The large, wooded lots provide privacy, tranquility, and a connection to nature, which is always close by.
Located close to the shops of Cadboro Bay Village, yet wild enough to be close to salmon fishing, scuba diving and ocean kayaking, Ten Mile Point is a beautiful, green oasis of West Coast living.
Gordon Head: Quiet and Family-Friendly
Gordon Head, a quiet, green suburb to the northeast of downtown Victoria. The area features many parks and very good schools, including the University of Victoria. The Gordon Head area are perfect for families. The neighborhood lies in a quiet, natural setting. For over a hundred years the farms of Gordon Head and the Shelbourne Valley provided the growing city of Victoria with much of its food.
The Hillcrest area was once the site of one of the largest strawberry farms in Victoria, and the Vantreight family’s original stone house still stands just off of Tyndall Boulevard. At one time, Gordon Head exported holly all over the world, which is why so many of these trees can be spotted around this corner of Victoria.
The pastoral setting gradually shifted to the livable, green, family suburb that Gordon Head is today.
Schools in Gordon Head and Ten Mile Point
Gordon Head is family-oriented, and this means there are many schools to choose from. For example, Hillcrest Elementary is located in the very heart of Gordon Head, and provides a comprehensive ESL program as well as a Challenge Program for gifted learners.
Gordon Head Middle School is known for its interdisciplinary teaching. Nearby Lambrick Park Secondary offers a popular business program and a baseball academy. Frank Hobbs Elementary and Arbutus Middle School all serve Gordon Head, as does Mount Douglas Secondary School, alma mater of many successful Victorians, including Steve Nash, Nelly Furtado, Yahoo! co-founder Jeff Mallett, and Miss Universe 2007.
And of course, the University of Victoria is within walking distance. University student renters are a great “mortgage helper” for homeowners in this part of Victoria.
