The Dominion Astrophysical Observatory and Saanich Municipal Hall are just two of the heritage buildings to see, and other heritage landmarks can be seen on one of the many Heritage Walking Tours (maps are available on the Saanich Community website). The neighborhood is also located close to Swan lake which is home to many animals including turtles, river otters and beavers. Swan lake is a lovely place for walking, hiking trails and includes a native plant garden. The Nature Center at Swan lake was opened in 1975 (rebuilt in 1988) and offers nature exhibits, a bee colony and activities for kids. This community is also close to Victoria International Airport and the Ferry Terminals at Swartz Bay making it easy to travel. Being outside in this community is appealing because of all the outdoor activities and most residents spend their time time walking, hiking, horseback riding or visiting one of the close by beaches.
Is there shopping close by?
Tanner offers walk-in clinics and bigger stores including Walmart and a local shopping Center. The local shopping center called Uptown is filled with retail stores, financial institutions, restaurants and a food court. Tanner is close to Blanshard Street and the Trans Canada Highway making it a breeze to get Downtown or one of the surrounding areas. This community also has auto repair shops and stables and a lot of the surrounding area is used for commercial purposes.

Other areas to consider are Central Saanich for the agricultural heritage or Rocklands if you are looking for a prestigious neighborhood with appealing lot sizes.
