The city of Langford, located about 20 minutes by car to the west of Victoria, is British Columbia’s fastest growing municipality.
Innovative collaborations with developers have resulted in a community that is growing the “smart” way with plenty of amenities for young families. For example, local developer Westhills has collaborated with Langford and the YMCA to build a new aquatic center.
Schools in Langford
On top of a constantly growing number of recreation centres in Langford, there will be two new high schools in the region (one in Langford, and one at the end of Veterans Memorial Parkway, in Colwood). These schools will replace the ageing Belmont high school on Jacklin.
Langford’s new high school will be located on a hill above Eagle Ridge Community Centre, Langford’s state-of-the-art (and large) sports centre. High school students enrolled in Belmont’s “hockey academy” program will use nearby Eagle Ridge for practices and games.
Langford is also home to plenty of parks and green space. City Centre Park has everything from bowling lanes to a splash park in summer. Close by, the Q 100 Arena (formerly known as the Bear Mountain Arena) provides spring and summer programs for kids.
Langford Lake has been called one of BC’s “secret lakes”, and the city is just a short cycle or drive from the miles of walking trails that network Thetis Lake. Goldstream Provincial Park is also close by, while Witty’s Lagoon is a perfect place to go hiking, observe wildlife, or spend a day at the beach.
On top of that, residents of Langford know that any trip to the west coast of the Island is at least a half-hour quicker than from Victoria. And that’s an added bonus when travelling by car with children.
